When we look at the stories of Jesus in the bible, we see that despite being a profoundly influential leader, Jesus spent a lot of time simply being with people, listening to them, and serving them in a variety of ways. We want to emulate this, and when we asked ourselves how we can serve others, we found lots of different ideas.
Whether it's giving out Milk and Cookies on New Years Day, or helping people by trimming hedges and picking up litter in the streets, we find that serving others and being extravagant in our generosity impacts in peoples lives. For us it's a way of living as the people God created us to be, as Jesus did.
Often when we serve people individually, we simply say why in person, or do so without saying. When we run organised events though, we use cards, such as the one you can see below, which give our web address, and a simple message, that we are serving, because Jesus did, and that it's a simply and practical way of demonstrating God's irrepressible love for you. Of saying - God loves you.
While we know lots of people engaged in similar activities throughout the UK, we are serving our neighbours in Bartley Green, and in the surrounding areas, and serving in this area is important to us. We hope that as we grow and serve more people, those we serve will be inspired, and will join us in serving others in our community.
While our serving is inspired by an enthusiasm for following Jesus, we serve for the purpose of serving, and our motives are the ones above, to serve as Jesus did, and because we believe it’s a great thing to practically demonstrate God’s love. We’ve had people of all backgrounds join us, we'd love to hear how you are serving others in your own lives, and to have you join us in serving our community.
